The first block is (almost) over, a new block begins. This means it is once again time to get together and have a block opening drink on Wednesday night, October 28 2015, hosted by MSV Incognito!

The theme of this drink is Halloween. So get your spookiest, craziest, most awesome and fabulous costume and wear it at the event. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes!

As usual, the drink is held upstairs at Café De Twee Heeren, Platielstraat 17-19 in Maastricht. We have our own room upstairs, which you can find by taking the door on the right side when you walk inside, or on the left side of the bar. You can always ask a bartender in case you can’t find it.

Drinks, as usual, are 1 coin each (except for wine, which is 2). Coins are €1.50 each or €5 for 4 coins. Note that of course you don’t have to drink if you don’t want to and you can use the coins you bought at previous events as well.

Every year Incognito organizes an introduction weekend for its members. Because of problems with the location we were not able to make this a reality this year. However, this did not mean that we planned to skip this activity altogether.

This is why, with a bit of delay, we present to you: The Incognito Camp. This camp will be similar to the introduction camps of other years. This years theme is the Olympic Games.

The camp will be held from Friday the 13th of November (after lectures end) until Sunday the 15th of November.

Throughout the weekend we will hang out with each other and do lots of fun activities. The cost for the weekend is 35 euros for members and 45 for non members (there is also an option to become a member and join the camp for 50 euros). This will include food, drinks, snacks, transportation and accommodation during the weekend.

Incognito will have a Week of Gaming, where we have a Board Game Night on Wednesday and the MysteryLAN (LAN-party) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This week will take place 28 September until October 4th.

It will be time to release your inner Legolas when Incognito hosts an archery event on September 23th 2015!

The event will take place at Brusselseweg 700 and begins at
20:00, although we ask you to be present 10/15 minutes in advance so we can start well on time. It is an indoor event so don’t worry about the temperature.

Please note that it is about 4 km from the city centre and it is hard to reach by public transport, so we advise you to come by bike. For those interested, we will depart from Koningin Emmaplein at 19:30 sharp.

You want to participate but have no knowledge of archery whatsoever? Fear not! Instructions will be given (also in English) before we start playing and there will be plenty of instructors to help you.

Prices are €7,00 for members and €8,00 for non-members for the whole night (about 2,5 hours). Also, drinks will be available for purchase for €1,50 and minisnacks (M&Ms and such) for €0,30.

Come join us for a game of Pool at Snookercentrum Maastricht! This event will take place on Thursday September 17 at 8pm. We will be reserving a couple of tables so we can all play a few games of pool.

For the first time this year, we are introducing lower prices for Incognito members. The prices to join for the whole night are €5 for non-members and €4 for members.

What better way is there to spend your night, than to play board games with friends. This is why we’re organizing a boardgame night!

This year instead of having it upstairs at the Twee Heeren, the Boardgame night will be held at the CodePoke office at Maasboulevard 1, starting from 20:00. In the office building you have to take the stairs up to the first floor and we’ll be at the end of the hallway.

We will be providing some snacks and drinks, but you’re also allowed to bring your own.

It’s the start of the last lecture block. This, of course, will be celebrated with yet another drink. This drink’s theme is Flower Power! This means: put on your brightest clothes and party like you’re in the 60s!

From the 17th of April till the 19th of April Incognito organizes MysteryLAN 2015 for all students on the Department of Knowledge Engineering. Here you get a chance to show off your epic skills during a weekend filled with gaming!

This weekend starts on Friday after the lectures at Maasboulevard 1, 6211 JW, Maastricht.

The subscription fee for the LAN party is:
€10 for members.
€15 for non-members.
€25 when you want to join and become a member.

This gets you a chair and part of a table. Don’t forget to bring your own network cable and the food/drinks you want to drink during the weekend!

It’s time for KafE! This time Pieter Collins returns with a follow up talk about his software tool Ariadne, Don’t worry if you missed last years talk (Verification of Cyber-Physical Systems), this is for everyone: from first year bachelors to his fellow colleagues.

Abstract: Although computers are capable of performing trillions of logical and arithmetical operations without making a single error, most computational mathematical software makes so many (tiny) approximations that the results are really only a (very good) guess. For us knowledge engineers, this really isn’t good enough, we want to know for sure our results are correct!

For many years I have been working on a software tool “Ariadne” for proper, rigorous numerical computation with real numbers providing guaranteed bounds on all errors made. The original aim, as discussed in my previous KafE talk “Verification of Cyber-Physical Systems”, was to be able to prove that dynamic control systems, like robots, do what you want them to. But since this problem requires us to rigorously solve all kinds of difficult problems in continuous mathematics, the tool also provides a C++ library and Python scripting environment for general-purpose rigorous numerical computation. In this talk, I will give you a tutorial on the design and use of Ariadne, a tour-de-force of knowledge engineering combining logic, algebra, calculus, numerics, simulation, optimization, data structures and modelling, with some things which you don’t know but should, like interval arithmetic. I will also talk about the development process, which will mostly be explaining all the things that can go wrong if you don’t apply what you learnt in your software engineering course.
